Recipe Idea: Classic Urid Dal
Ingredients:
- 1 cup TRS Urid Dal
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil or ghee for cooking
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
- Rinse the urid dal under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak for at least 30 minutes.
- In a pot or pressure cooker, add the soaked urid dal and 4 cups of water. Cook until tender (about 20 minutes in a pressure cooker).
- In a separate pan, heat oil or ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add the cooked urid dal to the pan, mix well, and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or roti.
